Extremely Rare 1989 VHS RPO Fast Yampa Valley Mail Debut Issue Colorado 3985:

In the very first volume of this recently turned 35-year-old super rare video magazine on the world of trains, there are lots & lots of vintage films with a total of nearly 2 hours including

1. the final run of steam on the moffat tunnel line with great western 2-8-0 number 51 in 1965 & 1966

2. black & white & color images of the Denver zephyr

3. Vintage steam on the Colorado & southern with a cameo appearance by great western 2-10-0 decapod 90 that is still operating at the Strasburg railroad in Lancaster county Pennsylvania which this segment, & the previous segment was shot by Everett Roher that was later used & owned by the late Greg Scholl in both Burlington route steam from 2005 & Colorado & Southern Steam from 2010

4. a short segment on the history of railroad art

5. a comprehensive look at a toy train operator’s Marx O gauge collection

6. part 1 of metra commuter rails in Chicago with a promo commercial by the magazine itself showing wanted weird locomotives from the 19th & early 20th century in photographs

7. a tour of a 19th century workshop

8. the first installment of the train of the month showcasing Union Pacific challenger 3985 on Sherman hill which unfortunately, the footage in this short segment was shot with a silent 8mm film movie camera

9. a November 1988 visit to the Salt lake Garfield & western short line in Utah, where a center cab diesel is in the spirit of 1976 colors (this segment is un-narrated)

10. Union Pacific freight trains with the once brand new standard cab C40-8s (also un-narrated)

11. Southern pacific freight (also un-narrated)

12. Amtrak at Salt Lake City Union terminal with F40s & super liner coaches switching around the platforms for the California Zephyr & dessert wind (also un-narrated)

13. A segment called flag stops which talks about hobby shops, including the since been gone caboose hobbies in the Denver area

14. A preview for part 2 which focuses on centennial 6936, narrow gauge steam on the Georgetown loop & cripple creek & victor, moving GW 51, part 2 of Chicago’s metra, artist C.L. Smith, see a private car in Bellevue Ohio, & some other extras.

And 15. A visit to the Illinois railway museum at Union but the footage was shot during hibernation season in January of 1989 while Illinois terminal trolley car 415 was still in action from both the ground & inside the cab.

What’s also cool is that this program was not only recorded on a t-120 scotch brand VHS tape, but it still has the original price tag from an out of business hobby store, as well as 2 copies of this extremely rare title.
