WALLIS'S ROYAL 1788 ENGLISH MONARCHS Chronology Dissected Puzzle
This helpful guide/puzzle game of the early kings and queens of England was first published by John Wallis in London in 1788. This is a reproduction created appx 200 years later using originals in the collection of Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia and Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Wallis's was considered a useful teaching tool for England’s youth at the end of the 18th century, an early version of learning through fun!

The originals were printed during the reign of George III 1760-1820 aka Farmer George, The Mad King, King John Bull who lost the colonies But the table stops with George II. Scroll all the way down for list of Monarchs
Thirty-two separate cards (4 rows of 8) provide biographical information about the monarchs from William the Conqueror to King George II. A portrait is shown of each, in addition to a list of remarkable events of their reign and names of eminent persons. A letter below each image identifies the royal house – N = Norman, Y = York, T = Tudor, S = Stuart, etc. A handy reference for England’s youth at the end of the 18th century.

Ignore any vintage pricing. —We’re old, moving things forward, so no returns FYI: Dissected puzzles were the forerunners of jigsaws. They were very simply made by placing a picture on a piece of wood and cutting it into shapes. Some pieces might interlock, but most of the puzzle was just pushed into place. This meant that it would not stay in one piece very easily. To solve this, the outer edges of some puzzles, like this example, had long interlocking pieces that would form a frame to hold the whole puzzle together.
