Engraving After Auguste Gendron Carte de Visite CDV:
$150.00

Photograph of Engraving, Auguste Gendron, Les Ondines,Carte de Visite CDV, 1800s Civil War Era

This 1800s card measures 4 by 2.5 inches. It is a CDV of a piece of artwork by Auguste Gendron called Les Ondines.

There is nothing on the back of the card.

The card was found with other Civil War Era cards.

The card is not in perfect condition. But it is good with only minor soiling and no rips or tears.

I have photographed the card in a variety of light in order to best show details.

Auguste Gendron, also known as Ernest Augustin Gendron (17 March 1817 - 12 July 1881) was a French painter.

Undines, also ondines, are a category of elemental beings associated with water, stemming from the alchemical writings of Paracelsus. Later writers developed the undine into a water nymph in its own right, and it continues to live in modern literature and art through such adaptations as Danish Hans Christian Anderson’s 1837 “The Little Mermaid” and the 1811 novella Undine by Friedrich de la Motte Fouque.
