English Early 19th Century Oil Painting of Napoleonic wars British Aide-de-Camp For Sale
English Early 19th Century Oil Painting of Napoleonic wars British Aide-de-Camp: $11500.00
Early 19thcenturyNapoleonicWars period. Unsigned. The sitter wears the embroidered uniform of a British Aide-de-Camp. The wave-like embroidery is distinctive to this uniform, and he appears to wear some kind of overcoat on top of that and carries a fashionable mameluke sabre, an eastern style that was popular with many Europeans at the time. Without any more information on the sitter, I’d say it’s probably from the 1810s, with that little moustache, maybe a little later in the decade, I’d have to see when that uniform was superseded. Framed 30\"x36\". I can send more photos if interested. This was purchased about 5 years ago at sale and could easily be in a museum. Not only is it beautifully painted, but the sitter is extremely handsome. Until more research can be done his identity is unknown. Flawless.
