This is a type 8, Circa 1899 – 1902 era Stanley 10. It carries a “B”casting mark onthe lever cap and the lateral adjustment lever has the 7/24/88 patent date.

The body retains ~95%or more of the original japanned finish.There is some minor pitting on the sole which will lap out if you sodesire, but I’m not sure what’s there would actually affect or impede use ofthe plane. The lever cap also has someminor pitting on the top surface which will polish out if it visually offendsyou.

The cutter has the “Q”trademark with the 1892 patent date. Itis faint but still legible with the naked eye.The chip breaker also has some pitting.

The rosewood handlehas a small piece out of the horn, otherwise it’s good – no cracks, breaks, repairs,etc. The rosewood front knob is fine –again no cracks, breaks, repairs.

Now that I’ve pointedout all of the flaws which I see, let me also say this is a very nice clean plane(Type 8). It shows well and will displaywell. It’s certainly worth preservation in someone’s collection. It will also make a good plane for use in the shopwith a little TLC.
