Early American Survey Compass-18th Century-Farr: $750.00
This is a Survey Compass made by G. Farr from Manlius Village, New York. Smart has listed Farr as making instruments at the end of the Revolutionary War. This xampleis one of his earliest works as noted by the primitive construction details. The radial compass ring is made from lead and has a curious scale on the face. Perhaps this instrument was meant to be used as a cumferentor . The dial measures 7 inches and the length between the outriggers is 15 inches. The cover glass is cracked and the needle is missing. A great piece for restoration ; a rare American Dial.
