Early American Decorative Band Box with two Labels: $200.00
This box was made by S. A. Brower & Co in Boston. It retains both its original factory label, as well as a hat dealers label on the lid. These boxes were historically defined as luggage, and a lot of the time, names are written on them in case of boxes used for travel. This box has the name “Mr. Lyndon A. Marsh, Woodstock Vt.” written on it twice. Marsh was the son of congressman Charles Marsh (1765-1849) who was also the United States Attorney for the district of Vermont, appointed by George Washington. Lyndon Marsh’s brother was George Perkins Marsh, first United States ambassador to Italy appointed by Abraham Lincoln. The box has an arabesque style wall hanging on its exterior. It measures 15 inches tall and 13 inches in diameter.Cat not included.
