Early 20th Century Journal Filled With Cooking And Household Hints:

Charming diminutive 2 ½ x 4 ¼ journal, c. 1910, with approximately 40 pp, original and typed in blue ink, offering recipes and practical hints for everyday living. Bound in leather boards and held together by two brass pins, the journal includes a wide range of topics including preparing meringue for pies, using soda for making apple or cranberry sauce, using cider when making jelly, thickening cream, making sure pie crusts don’t shrink, poaching eggs, making trinity biscuits, melting chocolate, using apples in bread pudding, using coffee in gravy.

Other practical tips include making starch polish, how to create a wood whitener, removing soot spots, making buttonholes, driving away red ants, removing warts and starting a fire.

The journal is in very good condition with the first page detached but present. Vertical cracking to the front board and some age wear. Inside boards are lined in linen. About half full.
