Maker: Very fine, thin and translucent porcelain is the backdrop for the exquisite gold decoration on this exceptional and tiny antique square Limoges cup and saucer set. Marks and age: The cup has the blue overglaze decorator’s mark number 5 of Lazeyras, Rosenfeld & Lehman, or L. R. & L. Limoges. According to the third edition of the Collector\'s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain by Mary Frank Gaston, this mark came into use in 1922, making this set about 100 years old. The saucer is unmarked.
L. R. & L. was a decorating studio in Limoges in the 1920s. Its exact dates of operation are not known.
There is no white ware backstamp to identify the maker of the porcelain itself, which is typical of L. R. & L. works.
The studio specialized in decorative works featuring florals, game birds and fish, though it also produced other types of decoration.
Design: Both pieces in this exquisite little set feature raised gold encrusted floral displays.
Condition: The set is in overall excellent condition with no marks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, discoloration or repairs. There is a tiny nick near the cup handle - it\'s shown in the photo with the red arrow - and light wear to the edges.
Size: The saucer is 3 7/8 inches square. The cup is 2 5/8 inches square and 1 3/8 inches tall. The set weighs 2.8 ounces.
