This exceptional vintage Japanese kimono is an outstanding collector’spiece, showing several of the techniques used to make the finest garments. Hand-drawnyuzen-dyed kimonos were expensive and highly regarded. These items have notsurvived in large numbers.
The design features aquablue dye applied by hand to vary the intensity and sometimes creating a negativeor reverse image effect. This is a difficult skill to master and these imagesare expertly painted. Pinkdye is used for some flowers.
There are extensive butdelicate hand painted gold accents.
Some blue flowers areembroidered.
The heavy jacquard silkfabric was woven on a loom that created a beautiful rippling water pattern.
