B/w 8x11 illustration of Elbert Hubbard from the knees up in an open-collared shirt and white pants, signed \"with love & blessings ever\".
Inscribed printed art signed \"To Mrs. Norris/with love & blessings ever/Elbert Hubbard\". With facsimile signature of artist and pencil notations on verso, both in unknown hand. B/w, 8x11 overall, image 3¾x5¾, one surface, mounted on heavy cardstock. Hubbard (1856-1915, born in Bloomington, Illinois) was a writer, editor and printer whose most famous work was A Message to Garcia (1899). Hubbard gave up newspaper and advertising work in 1892 to found the communal art colony Roycroft Press in order to revive old handicrafts, especially artistic printing. Hubbard went down with the Lusitania when it was sunk by the Germans in 1915. Lightly toned, soiled, foxed and creased. Stain touches signature. Upper right corner is missing. Verso of board is cracked. Light chipping at left and right edges. Light dents at top edge. Impressions on image. Lightly rounded and worn corners. Shipping - We ship via FedEx and USPS. Shipping charges for multiple orders are combined whenever possible. Due to the value of the items we sell, orders over $200 will require a signature for delivery. Please contact us in advance if this is an issue. For high-value items, this policy may also limit our ability to ship to a PO Box. All international shipments (destinations outside the U.S) will be sent via FedEx.
