The Samson Co. of France began in Paris in 1845 with a sales room, and continued for over a century, finally shutting down in 1964, the remaining sales room examples were sold by Christies of London in 1979. The company was renowned for its \"copies\" or historical stylistically based works that would have been done originally by other makers, those in Japan, China, England, Germany. They were highly skilled in reproducing or creating work based on these other styles and time, so much so that confusion existed as to whether they were truly original or copies. Over time there were other Paris firms doing the same thing, and even some Herend Co. has been confused at Samson.
This example is likely early 20th C, though at least one online sale had dated a nearly identical example as 19th C. This elegant dog, in the style of old Japanese Arita, measures approx 10\" H x 12\" L x 4 `/2\" H and weighs approx 5 pounds. It is perfect, no nicks or cracks or repairs. CHECK OUT MY OTHER ITEMS.
