Original interwar era to early WWII M1917A1 steel helmet. WWI era helmet upgraded to 1917A1 spec\'d with leather interior, OD web chinstrap and heavy cork / aggregate finish.
The shell is marked \'FS 165\'(\"FS\" indicating the manufacturer, T. Firth & Sons Limited of Sheffield (1916-1918); and \"165\" the steel batch number).
Unknown black stencil on one side as well. Likely a rack number or unit designation.
Original 1917A1 leather liner with pad at the bottom of the crown. Comes with original OD web chinstrap with early cast buckle. The exterior has the OD paint with heavy cork aggregate seen on interwar WWI-era helmet that have been refurbished to 1917A1 specification.
