Nice clean and sharp stereoview from E & H T Anthony. This is view #1901. Bird’s Eye View of the Bay of New York (City). The image shows buildingsin the foreground and ships out in the harbor. Ove sailing vessel and anotherside wheeler docked. A few other smaller ships are in the bay. *Edward Anthony started inthe photography business in 1842 by opening a daguerreotypegallery in NewYork. Five years later he opened a separate shop devoted exclusively tophotographic supplies and as sales grew rapidly ceased operations in hisdaguerreotypist gallery. In 1850 Anthony began the production of daguerreotypecases, camera boxes, and photographic chemicals. His brother, Henry T. Anthony,joined the business two years later in 1852. The Anthony brothers\' factory waslocated at New York City\'s Harlem Depotoccupying 1/4 of the building by1854 and advertised that their company was the largest manufacturer anddistributor of photographic apparatus and material in the world. In 1859Anthony added stereoscopicview cards, photographic albums, and galleryfurniture and backdrops to the company\'s product lines. The Anthony Companyalso maintained a close business relationship with famed American photographerand portraitist Mathew Brady. The firm\'s name wasformally changed to E. & H.T. Anthony & Co. in 1862 and in 1877 wasreorganized as a corporation. E. & H.T. Anthony merged with theScovill and Adams Company in 1902. Clean and sharp image. Paper tag on theback.
