34th President. Impressive typed letter signed “Dwight D. Eisenhower” AS PRESIDENT, December 10, 1958, White House stationery, to “The Honorable Ralph A. Gamble / Care of George Washington Hospital / Washington, D.C.”, with several corrections by Eisenhower, in full: A friend of yours and mine called the White House the other say to me of your illness. I had not known you were in the George Washington Hospital, but I most earnestly wish for your quick recovery. With that wish I send you the greetings of the Season. Gamble had recently retired as a Republican Congressman, and would sadly pass away just 3 months later.
