Duparquet Antique Copper Pan Large Historical D H & M Louis Martin.

Collectors of antique copperware dream of adding a piece that is of this caliber to the collection- (and in many collections it would surely become a center piece). “best of several worlds here”- first this is a Duparquet piece wearing the earlier stamp of D H & M Co which is a well known “French” firm which established themselves in early New York (1850’s and then bankruptcy came in 1930 as Great Depression finally took its toll). Secondly, this large sized sauteuse wears an additional stamp sending it into the “uber rare” category- “Louis Martin’s”- and this stamp does not take much research (on the web) to learn how significant this pot would be in a collection- historical restaurant and restaurantuer with in the great New York City. I am sure during its first appointment with the re-tinners it earned its final stamp, and well deserved, “XXX” do to it’s size. See all photos for size- diameter of pan is 14” and stands just shy of 3” tall. Iron handle is 14” as well and three giant pounded rivets securely and tightly hold the handled to the pan. Underneath side of handle also has what is left of the “DH & M Co” stamping. Most collectors do not let “the good stuff” like this go very often. - this is a rare chance to have a copper this great. The pan is just a bit “out of round” as it appears that it no doubtedly has been dropped more than a few times while being carried to and from the dish room and sauté station- on the bottom you can see a repair from long ago. However, the pan holds water and does not leak. The weight of the pan is 10.4 lbs- on my scale. The tinning on the pan is also quite intact but oxidized.

This pan would display very well in versatile ways. Most likely there is only one of these out there.
