Once upon a time my comics world was shaken up by the out-of-the-blue first works by a young artist named Marshall Rogers. When he began drawing Batman when Steve Englehart took over Detective Comics for just a few precious issues, I was enthralled. It was the best Batman EVER, and my 15-year-old brain was overwhelmed.
Now it\'s time to pass these books to new readers as I\'m clearing out my basement of long box after long box. I have two sets of these books, but there are distinct differences between the two sets, which are being sold separately:
This set includes Detective 466-468, which features in the first two issues short stories in the back of the book by Rogers and Austin. The third is a full-length story wrapping up the storyline written by Bob Rozakis and featuring art by Rogers and Austin. It does NOT include 469 and 470, which was a two-parter drawn by Walt Simonson and has no Rogers art. These can be found in the other set I\'m selling on currently.
Then it includes 471-479, which is the entire Englehart run PLUS a couple of issues written by Len Wein and drawn by Rogers. This includes: the exciting two-part Joker story, The Laughing Fish, considered by most observers to be in at least the top 5 of all-time Batman stories; the return of Hugo Strange, a golden age villain, appearances by The Penguin and Rupert Thorne, the first appearance of Silver St Cloud, who is legendary among Bruce Wayne\'s many girlfriends; and yes, the first modern appearance of DEADSHOT, later of the Suicide Squad, its comics and movies.
As a bonus I\'m tossing in the following year\'s Batman Spectacular (DC Special Series Vol 2, #15) which features art by Rogers (a prose story with a fantastic last page), Michael Nasser and Michael Golden. One of the best anthology issues of all time!
And lastly--and kudos for reading this far--the copy of #476 in this set is AUTOGRAPHED BY MARSHALL ROGERS! When it was released, my comic shop\'s owner went to San Diego Comic-Con and had this copy signed TO ME by Rogers!
So that\'s the sum of it--466-468, 471-479 plus the bonus Batman Spectacular. Key issues galore!
All issues are definitely NOT brand new. They\'ve been read, but carefully. They all have some wear on the covers, which are still glossy. Not noticeable tears or folds. The newsprint interiors are aging, but still clear. Just not white any more. They\'ve been stored in a long box in a smoke-free home ever since.
I bought each of these as they were released, and I\'ve owned them since purchase at my LCS. They have been my treasures but it\'s time to let them go.
