From 1972-1976: a lot of 4 Batman & Detective Comics, each is complete, in mid-grade, all staples are intact, free from rust, and are holding all pages and covers together. No water damage. Average condition of this lot is Fine Minus, with specific defects noted below.
In this lot you get:- Detective Comics #426 features a cover by Mike Kaluta, for the Batman story \"Killer\'s Roulette,\" which is both written and drawn by Frank Robbins. The second story in this issue features the Elongated Man, in a story written by Len Wein and drawn by Dick Giordano. This comic is in Fine condition. The corners are abraded, and there are color-breaking spine stresses that really show up against the black border. The back cover and interior covers are tanned.
- Detective Comics #436 sports a cover by Nick Cardy for Frank Robbins\' Batman script in this issue \"The Night Has a Thousand Fears\" with interior artwork by the team of Bob Brown & Frank Giacoia. In the back-up story, the Elongated Man appears in \"Sign of the Two Fingers\" written by Elliot Maggin and drawn by Dick Giordano. Fine Minus condition: long, thin color-breaking creases on the front cover. Some foxing staining and tanning on the back cover, interior covers and pages. See the picture of the splash page for a representative example of the interiors.
- Detective Comics #445 has a cover and interior artwork by Jim Aparo for Len Wein\'s script \"Break-In at the Big House.\" This is part of the multi-part \"Bat-Murderer\" series, and features Ras al Ghul. The other new story in this issue is a Robin solo feature, with artwork by Mike Grell. This is the final 100 Page Super-Spectacular issue of Detective Comics, and reprints in this issue include a Golden Age Dr. Mid-Nite story from 1948 and the first solo Elongated Man story, from Detective Comics #327 in 1964 and featuring Carmine Infantino artwork. Fine Minus condition:The front cover has some mild color loss due to abrasion. The upper left corner of the front cover is worn. There are several fine creases that break color. These should be visible on the front cover scan. See for example a vertical crease running through the \"D\" in the Detective Comics logo, and a diagonal crease running through the \"t\" and \"O\" in the same logo.
- Batman #274 is \"Gotham City Treasure Hunt\" written by David Vern (credited as David V. Reed) and drawn by Ernie Chan (credited as Ernie Chua). Chan also drew the cover to this issue. This story is part of Vern\'s \"Underworld Olympics 1976\" four-part series. Very Good Plus condition: see the damage at the upper right-hand corner of the front cover. Interior pages are tanned. There is a long vertical crease along the right-hand edge of the front cover, mostly not breaking color, but turning into a color break for about 2 inches at the top edge. Note the grease pencil marking at the upper left-hand corner of the front cover: I believe this is an arrival date.
