BIO:Desmond Doss (Deceased) WWII Medal of Honor Recipient for his actions duringthe Battle of Okinawa at Hacksaw Ridge as a Combat Medic where he saved thelives of over 75 Infantrymen during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. Doss waswounded four times on Okinawa. He became the first and only conscientiousobjector to receive the Medal of Honor in World War II. In addition to theBattle of Okinawa Corporal Doss took part in the Battle of Guam and the Battleof Leyte. He is a recipient of the following military decorations: Medal ofHonor (highest military decoration), 3 Bronze Stars (4th highest militarydecoration) and 3 Purple Hearts.

CorporalDoss’s life story was the inspiration for the 2016 film titled “Hacksaw Ridge”.He was portrayed by actor Andrew Garfield in the film. Doss was also thesubject of a remarkable 2004 documentary titled “The Conscientious Objector”which can be viewed on YouTube that I highly recommend viewing.
