Very early 1856/1857 early type of rubber called gutta percha.
Civil War Era Gutta Percha Frame with original sale paper behind the glass.
Very good clean condition,one corner has a crack ( please see photos),but the case is solid ,even the lock works and original paper behind the glass that was purchased with the case is dated (Please see photos) The tin type picture was purchased together with the frame ,it did belong to the owner of the photo case ,photo was never framed. This frame was purchased in the sale house in Eastern Pennsylvania.
