FEATURED WITHIN THIS ALBUM’S 394 POLAROID PHOTOS AREMANY IMAGES OF MID-CENTURY AMERICAN ‘ARISTOCRATS’ IN ADDITION TO 30+ FULLY CANDIDAND PLAYFUL IMAGES OF THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF WINDSOR. The album is assembled by a shown but as yetunidentified, older man shown in several images and identified as ‘self’. All of the photos are Polaroid type 40 / 41exposures measuring 3.25 in x 4.25 in. Some of the images are oriented portraitand some are landscape. The album has laid in an old (c. 1950 - 55) typed slipproviding a brief description of the contents of the album. It\'s not clear ifthis was a dealer / sale description or one completed by Copley\'s staff.Additionally, nearly every photo is captioned (ostensibly by the gentleman onlyknown as \'self\') as to the photo subjects and as to place. The album contains 394 photos across 51 double sidedalbum leaves dating between 1949 - 1950. Each leaf having about 7 – 8 imagesper leaf. Being Polaroids, there are noother examples of these photos elsewhere nor is it likely that they\'ve beenpublished. The album depicts all manner of leisure activity rangingfrom Palm Beach sunbathing, Southern Plantation hunting trips, GolfTournaments, Wedding parties, etc. The individuals appearing in the album are a who’s whoof Mid Century high society, wealth, governmental power and celebrity. Provenance:James S. Copley / Copley Library – Followers of our inventory might note we originallyacquired most of our James Copley material in 2009 & 2010. However, werecently learned one of the Copley homes inherited by David Copley (d. 2012)had family effects from both Ira and James Copley in the garage. We acquired aportion of that material when it was offered at sale in Spring 2015. This item is formerly from the collection of James S.Copley (1916 - 1973) who owned the Copley Press (comprised of 14+ citynewspapers) and founded the Copley Library in San Diego California.
