This modern bullet model is also known as the ‘Minié Ball’ - named after its French inventor Claude Minié. Given its innovative features, the Minié ball, unlike its simple musket ball counterpart, allowed for greater effective range and accuracy. These bullets were first used in large scale during the Crimean War (1853 and 1856), a conflict which saw the Russians fighting against an alliance of France, the United Kingdom, the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia.
