Creedite is a fascinating and beautiful mineral that typically goes under-appreciated by most. Creedite\'s composition is quite unique. Only eight other, very rare, minerals have similar chemical compositions. Creedite was first described in Colorado, near the center of the Creed Quadrangle, hence the name Creedite. But the creedite specimens found at the type locality were small, not very well crystallized, and pricey.It was not until the finds in the early 70s in Santa Eulalia, Mexico, that collectors started to get a taste of just how good Creedite could get. Like many other discoveries in Mexico, the saying is true: When it rains, it pours. 20-30 years later, a subsequent find of Creedite from Mina Navidad, Durango, Mexico, out poured into the market the following years. The Creedite from the Navidad Mine set the bar for the mineral, attractive color, better crystallization, and larger crystals.Creedites typically form in beautiful, intricate, radiating spherical clusters of lustrous, prismatic euhedral Crystals. Creedite crystals range from translucent to transparent. Colors typically vary from clear, white, or purple color, which occasionally can be discolored by trace elements or coatings that give an orange or black color, to the once colorless crystals.This piece features lustrous, well-formed, sharp, creedite crystals radiating in a starburst formation, making this a very three-dimensional specimen. The Creedite crystals are a gemmy, Halloween orange color to nearly colorless in some zones. This Creedite is a fine example of the species and would be a terrific addition to anyone\'s collection.
