UNITED CONFEDERATEVETERANS MEMBERSHIP
JOHN BROWN GORDON (1832-1904).Gordon, a Confederate general, was one of Robert E. Lee’s top generals,known for his audacious offensive style. DS. 1pg. 20” x 16”. April 20,1893. New Orleans. A large UnitedConfederate Veterans membership certificate signed “J.B. Gordon” as GeneralCommanding and co-signed by “Geo Moorman”, another Confederatemilitary officer. The decorativecertificate admitted Comrade J.A. Martin who had been a Lieutenant Colonel onthe staff of Major General William Gillespie Blain. The certificate has a gold seal in the lowerleft corner, complete with a red ribbon.In the center is the Third National flag of the Confederacy. The signatures are large and dark; there is aghost image of the ribbon in the lower right corner from where the document wasfolder. There is repair tape on theverso and the condition is very good.
