Francis Marion Cockrell [1834 1915] was a Confederate military commander and politician from Missouri who began his military career in 1861 with the 2nd Missouri Regiment and commanded as a colonel and distinguished himself at the Vicksburg Campaign. Promoted to brigadier general in July 1863 he commanded the 1st Missouri Regiment at the Atlanta Campaigns, and with general Hood in the Tennessee Campaign where he was wounded at the Battle of Franklin. In 1865, he commanded a division at the defense of Fort Blakely. On April 9, 1865, Cockrell was captured but paroled by Union forces. Cockrell\'s First Missouri and Cockrell himself is widely recognized as one of the best combat brigadiers of the entire war. After the war he served as a United States Senator from Missouri. Listed for sale is the autograph of general Francis Marion Cockrell signed on a page. The autograph is signed \'\'F.M. Cockrell Missouri\'\' in fountain pen. The page measures 7.00 x 3.00 inches and is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic and is a desirable example of this noted Confederate general.
