Herff-Jones Company has been in operation from 1920 to present.

Vernon Kilns - 1931 to 1958.

Vernon Kilns began in 1912 as Vernon Potteries with George J.W. Poxon from the English Wade Pottery family.  He came to America and visited pottery companies across the country. He purchased a ranch in Vernon California and established Vernon Potteries in 1912 selling his ceramics under the name Poxon China. He first produced tiles and then heavy earthen ware and hotel/restaurant ware.

A fire in 1927 destroyed part of his facility and they had difficulty rebuilding during the Depression. The company was sold in 1931, to Faye Dennison who changed the name to Vernon Kilns. The Poxon molds were used until an earthquake in 1933 destroyed the original blanks and new designs were created. They overcame 2 fires in the 1940s but in the 50\'s could not complete with market inundation of foreign imports and closed in 1958.

Vernon Kilns was one of the \'Big 5\' California potteries. When they closed, Metlox Manufacturing  another of the Big 5, bought their molds and continued to produce some patterns in their Vernonware department.

Vernon Kilns used clay from Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina and England.
