Checks all in Good Condition. Most have typical stab holes. Light soiling and wear. 5 of 6 are endorsed on verso.

Collection of rare and early Colorado territorial checks including one Central City check and 5 Denver checks. Colorado was formed as a territory in 1861 and achieved statehood in 1876. Mining was the driving force which attracted the first concentration of white settlement to the territory with the discovery of gold and silver in the 1850\'s.

Collection includes Check No. 1 drawn on Colorado National Bank in Denver, issued at Fort Sanders which was outside of Laramie, Wyoming Territory, three checks with Civil War era tax stamps, and a Central City check drawn on Rocky Mountain National Bank. Early checks are wonderful ephemeral treats documenting early movers and shakers in the wild west and, quite collectible. Worthy of further research.
