Emile Coriolan Hippolyte Guillemin was a French sculptor of the Belle Epoque. He worked in bronze but like many artists of his day he would test designs in other materials such as cast iron. This seated female was part of a pair ultimately sculpted in bronze and recently appraised at $38K. Emile\'s sculptures incorporated themes inspired by the French Revolution, Mediterranean mythology and orientalist aesthetics. This piece is attributed to Guillemin but has no visible hallmarks or foundry markings. This cold painted cast iron example is very similar to her bronze cousins with the exception of the piece held in the right hand. This is a very compelling sculpture in very good condition structurally. The cold paint shows expected wear but remains vibrant overall. {Experts recommend damp cloth cleaning only - chemicals will damage the remaining paint.} All sales are final; no international sales.
