OriginalCold War United States Army Major General Dinges Mess Dress White Coat Hong Kong T. & Shirt Korean Made, Edward Arthur Dinges (b. 5 Apr 1931 - d. 16 Jan 1990) "was agraduate from West Point US Military Academy in 1953. He served as the Executive Officerfor the 3rd Battalion of the 11th Artillery Regiment of the 24th InfantryDivision. He served in Vietnam as a Plans Officer, Assistant Chief of Staff, J5for the US Military Assistance Command, and as the Assistant Division Commanderfor the 3rd Armored Division in Europe. Dinges then served as Post Commanderfor Fort Sill. He lastly served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations andIntelligence in Central Europe"see further below - Good Conditionas Photographed with wear and some staining / discoloration as seen (front closure buttons incorrect, gold not silver and fob with paper clip - just for closure), likely would dry clean - Tailor Made in Hong Kong Production. Major General Edward Arthur Dinges was born in April, 1931.He graduated from West Point US Military Academy in 1953. He served as theExecutive Officer for the 3rd Battalion of the 11th Artillery Regiment of the24th Infantry Division. He served in Vietnam as a Plans Officer, AssistantChief of Staff, J5 for the US Military Assistance Command, and as the AssistantDivision Commander for the 3rd Armored Division in Europe. Dinges then servedas Post Commander for Fort Sill. He lastly served as the Deputy Chief of Stafffor Operations and Intelligence in Central Europe. He retired for medicalreasons in 1984. Six years later, in 1990, Dinges passed away at the age of 59and is buried at Fort Sill Post Cemetery.

Obituary:

FORT SILL (AP) - A funeral with full militaryhonors will be conducted Friday for retired Maj. Gen. Edward Arthur Dinges, theformer commander at Fort Sill. Dinges, 58, died Tuesday at a base hospital ofcomplications from Alzheimer's disease. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday inFort Sill's New Post Chapel. The burial will be in the post cemetery. Survivorsinclude his wife, his mother, and three daughters. Dinges served as postcommander from June 1980 until September 1982. He then served as deputy chiefof staff for operations and intelligence for Allied Forces, Central Europe. Heretired for medical reasons in August 1984. Fort Sill, Dinges is remembered forthe Lawton-Fort Sill Community Co-op, which was formed in August 1980 to unitecivilian businesses and organizations with military units for joint activities,including civic improvements and recreation. The program, which began with 18sponsoring members, has grown to comprise 74 businesses and 52 military units.It received the President's Citation for Private Sector Initiatives in 1985.Dinges, originally from Newburgh, N.Y., graduated from the U.S. MilitaryAcademy in 1953. In addition to his posts at Fort Sill and in Europe, Dingesserved in Vietnam as a field artillery battalion commander and plans officerfor the U.S. Military Assistance Command. From 1975 to 1978, he was assigned tothe Third Armored Division Artillery in Europe, where he held successive postsas division artillery commander, chief of staff, and assistant divisioncommander and commander of the Giessen Military Community. Among his awards anddecorations are the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, theDistinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star medal with oak leaf cluster, theArmy Commendation Medal and the Office of the Secretary of DefenseIdentification badge.
