Classic TRIPHYLITE w/ VIVIANITE?--Palermo #1 mine, New Hampshire--4+ Inches: $40.00
I'm pleased to offer this specimen of Triphylite with likely Vivianite and ??? from the Palermo #1 mine, Groton, Grafton County, New Hampshire. The specimen measures 4.34 x 2.91 x 2.00 inches or 11.02 x 7.39 x 5.07cm. This is from the Ron Blackstone (1947-2017) collection of Phoenix, Arizona. Ron was a good customer of mine and I was able to acquire his huge collection (thousands of pieces) in March, 2018. His interests were all over the map and he had a ton of personally collected specimens to go along with South African rhodos, Ojuela mine purple adamites (3!!), Tsumeb smithsonites and azurites, etc. One box might not contain a single attractive specimen and the next might be full of classics. I believe that he collected this piece as he typically wrote "Cost $0" on the bottom of the cardboard trays that held his personally collected pieces. This piece is largely triphylite cleavages with probable more blue vivianite alteration. Triphylite is a fairly common lithium iron phosphate mineral and is using found as greenish-grey to bluish-grey cleaved masses. This piece also shows a brown alteration mineral that might be ??? and the aforementioned obvious dull blue and likely vivianite. The Palermo #1 mine is a classic eastern US locality that can claim to be the source of 15 new species to science and nearly 160 different minerals have been found here. Specimens aren't commonly featured in display collections due to the paucity of well-crystallized specimens but I have had a few killer crystal speicmens in the past and I've sold a half dozen Blackstone triphylite cleavages at shows. Perhaps it is because my asking prices are noticeably lower than others online--there is a sub-2inch piece on right now that is over $50 with more than $5 shipping! I always pay the postage on domestic shipping and never tack on bogus "handling, materials, and packing" charges. Please check my response and my other items. All specimens are carefully wrapped, come with complete and accurate labels and are quickly shipped. As always, your complete satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteedand I even offer FREE return shipping on any item that fails to satisfy for any reason---you can't go wrong. I'm reminded of the firm pledge printed on the old Foote Mineral Company mineral catalogs from more than a century ago, "Quality of specimens is assured as we permit return of specimens at our expense." Thanks for looking! I buy collections! Please contact me if you have a collection for sale or know of one that is available. I will pay a finder's fee to anyone that can point me to an eventual purchase!
