If you know anything about Muscatine, then you know what the photo on this card is about. Muscatine is considered the Watermelon Capitol of the world (and we have the world\'s largest watermelon slice on our riverfront to prove it) as well as the Pearl Button Capitol of the world! This photo shows 4 men on the Muscatine shoreline in 1907. 2 men in suits pretending they know what they are doing and then 2 clammers (clam fishermen) working hard to remove fresh caught mussels to cook. Not to eat but to make buttons out of the freshwater clam shells. The photograph was taken by the world-famous Oscar Grossheim (see Wikipedia) who left behind 55,000 glass plate negatives of his lifetime work in the Muscatine area. 5 1/2 x 3 1/2
