Civil War Stencil & GAR Badge - Col. Nelson Converse, 6th N.H. Vols.: $295.00
Civil War Stencil & GAR Badgeof Colonel Nelson Converse(ca. 1816-1894). Converse was born in Marlborough, New Hampshire. Commissioned as Lt. Col. on 15 Oct. 1861; commissioned as Colonel of 6th New Hampshire Vols. on 30 Nov. 1861; resigned due to disability on 8 March 1862. Stencil is brass with a raised border and reads: \"COL. / N. CONVERSE\" in two lines; in good condition except for piece missing from the bottom left corner.According to the Historical Data Systems database, Nelson Converse was the only Colonel surnamed \"Converse\" in the Federal Army, and the only two other soldiers named \"N... Converse\" were both privates. Also included is a GAR badge which came with the stencil. Badge is attached to an elastic band so it could easily be worn on a hat. Please inspect photos carefully. All of my research on HDS and Ancestry is included.
