Nice estate sale find! This is a vintage Chelsea Ship\'s Bell Clock with an 8-day mechanical wind-up movement and a coil spring gong chime with the ship\'s bell strike. The clock is housed in a nickel-plated brass case with a nautical maritime ship porthole design and comes with an ebony colored cradle stand. It has Arabic numerals on a 6-inch dial and is signed by the Chelsea Clock Company of Boston, USA. The clock was manufactured in 1948 and has a serial number of 527225. The serial number on the movement matches the serial number on the case.  These older Chelsea clocks are superior to todays Chelsea clocks, in my opinion, because they were 100% made in the USA. Todays Chelsea clock movements are made in Germany. The clock case has a shield type hinged bezel. Clock comes with a Chelsea key and a small stand that is not made by Chelsea.  The clock has some minor wear to the nickel plating commensurate with age and use.  For a 76 year old clock, I would say it is in very good vintage condition. The clock took a full wind and has been running non-stop for the last three days.  It loses about a minute per day, so it may be time for servicing.  The ship\'s bell strike works flawlessly, striking precisely on the hour and half hour. The posted photographs are an important part of the physical description.  Closely view all of them so you can judge for yourself the condition, quality, and age of the clock.  Clock is sold as is, no returns.  Shipping listed is for the lower 48 states. All other areas may require additional postage by the buyer.  Clock will ship double boxed, insured, and with a signature required on delivery.

NOTE: Keep in mind this clock is over 75 years old and retains the original finish, so it is not in perfect (like new) condition. It has wear commensurate with its age and use. If it ran perfectly, I would be asking $1200 for it. If it ran perfectly and looked new, I would be asking $1600 for it. My asking price factors in the clock will need servicing, and if you want the case to look new again. To have the movement serviced will cost $150 to $200. If you want the dial resilvered, add another $50. If you are paying more than that, you are overpaying! To have the case renickeled would cost $200 to $250. If you are looking for a clock this size in perfect condition, a new one from Chelsea Clock will cost you $3350 plus tax, or you can buy this one and after restoration, save yourself about $2000. You would end up with a clock superior to the ones sold today that are made overseas. If I were to keep this clock, I would just spend the $150 to $200 to have it serviced and keep the rest all original. Personally, I like a little patina and the way the clock looks. You can tell it is vintage.
