Centennial Exhibition 1876 Glass Hand Vase, 7 incheshigh, marked on cuff “Centennial 1876”, probably made by Gillinder Glass Co. atthe exposition in Philadelphia, there are 2 chips on the bottom edge rim, thereare chips to the serrated edges at the top of the vase, there is a scuff to thefrosted finish of the inside of the wrist, some embedded dirt is on the topback of the pattern that needs to be cleaned,American manufacturers set up mini factories at the CentennialExhibition in order to produce examples of their products that could be sold tovisitors as souvenirs, this is a nice size example, a ladies hand reaches upfrom a conical sleeve to hold a sheaf of wheat, made in a 2 part mold withseams on either side, the detail is quite nice with seed heads embossed in theglass that flair out above the hand which even has delicate fingernails, nicehistorical piece.
