Celestite, also called Celestine, is a strontium sulfate mineral first reported in the 1790’s. Its name, derived from the Latincaelestis, means “celestial” or “heavenly,” and refers to the sky-blue color commonly exhibited by its crystals. Because of its softness, it is less often used as a gemstone and more often as specimens.

These specimens come from a deposit that is found on the island of Madagascar.
