Vintage Ceramic 1960\'s Cartoon Dr. Seuss-like CharacterGerald McGrew with cork sealing the hole in the bottom. Condition is Very good Pre-owned vintage condition.
This very unique bank is definitely one of a kind! In fact, I cannot find another one like it. We believe it is probably made by the American Pottery Company in Marietta, Ohio. this bank is in the shape of a cartoon character head and was sold to me as a vintage Dr. Seuss Character probably the Grinch. It looks like a cat head but also looks like it has dog ears..... Based on this information we assume the piece is between 40-60 years old. You\'d never know it!
Measuring approx 5-1/2\" tall with the money slit on top, the bank is invery good condition. It is hand painted with a shiny glaze. The cork stopper fits perfectly in the bottom and it has not been removed. There are also numbers hand written on the bottom 10 / -403 under the glazing.
There is an extra dot painted on his nose and I am not sure if this is a flaw or part of his original paint. There may be some small chipping to the glaze but no major chips, cracks or breaks.
Truly a unique piece. Let us know if you have ever seen one before!
