CASE XX USA 5172 “Bulldog”. This is the rare second or“transition” model, made in 1965-1966.
CASE XX USA on front tang, 5172 on back tang, HAND MADE INUSA on blade back. 5-1/4” closed, brass liners, old style pinned CASE shield. The blade has super strong snap. The blade is tight with only the tiniest hint of wobble. Nice genuine Sambar stag handles, great color and texture. Similar coloring of stag handles back and front. The handles have no cracks or chips. The back handle has a microscopic line at the center pin but it does not go to the liner, not real noticeable (see last photo). A used knife – carried and sharpened. The blade is full and has light sharpening marks, patina,stains. Original CASE XX BULLDOG etch. Handling rubs/scratches on bolsters. No box.
