Up for sale is a small antique wood carving depicting the Lion of Lucerne. The lion symbolizes the courage, strength, and willingness of the Swiss Guard to die rather than to betray their oath of service. The massacre of the Swiss Guard represents a key episode in the French Revolution with the capture of the Tuileries Palace by armed insurgents on August 10, 1792.
Measures approximately 4.5 x 2 x 1.5 inches. Due to the age of the item, it does have some wear to the finish. Wood type is unknown. Please see photographs for condition and ask any questions.
