The item
A vintage and collectable military cap badge of the South Lancashire Regiment, which recruited across south Lancashire, including in Warrington (now in Cheshire) and St Helens (now in Merseyside). The badge pattern was used between 1898 and 1958.It features the Prince of Wales\'s plume, coronet and scroll with motto \"Ich Dien\" (I Serve). Below it there is a the Sphinx on a tablet, inscribed \"Egypt\", a distinction awarded for its service against the French in Egypt in 1801 in its earlier days as the 40th Foot.Above the plumes, there is a scroll inscribed \"South Lancashire\" and below the Sphinx and tablet, there is a scroll inscribed \"Prince of Wales\'s Vols.\" Branches of laurel connect the ends of the upper and lower scrolls. There is a slider to reverse.

It is in good vintage condition without damage and still has its original slider, but it would benefit from a thorough clean. Please note that although we given metal items a basic clean (i.e. a dusting) we never try to make items shine like new because we are aware that some collectors prefer items to look their age and retain their patina.Pricing
