CUNARD WHITE STAR LINE, RMS "QUEEN MARY", SECOND CLASS READING & WRITING ROOM CARD TABLE (TWO EXAMPLES CAN BE SEEN IN THE ARCHIVAL PHOTO WITHIN THIS ROOM ONBOARD IN THE 1950'S, PICTURED) (THIS STYLE OF TABLE WAS ALSO USED ELSEWHERE ON THE LINER WITHIN THE SHIPS 2ND CLASS PUBLIC ROOMS), C-1936, MANUFACTURED BY THE WELL KNOW MARINE OUTFITTERS & CABINET MAKERS, G.T. RACKSTRAW, OR WORCESTER.

R.M.S. "Queen Mary" circa 1936 Second-Class Reading & Writting Room exotic wood & veneer card table, made by G. T. Rackstraw, complete with brass ships plaque to the underside of the table top supports. It is missing its bakelite makers plaque, but the two small pin holes that once held it are visable to the underside of the supports for the table top, lacquered black top, this style of table came in two forms, one with a fixed lacquered top (this example) and another with a removable top, one side with baize for card playing, the other formica for drinks etc.

A number of these tables were returned by Cunard White Star Line to G.T. Rackstraw in 1947 after the ships post WW2 refit as surplus to requirements. They were then offered to members of staff at the cabinet makers, of the four known to exist, with the exception of the example still onboard today, all came direct from sources invloved with the factory.

A beautiful size, it could be accommodated within any modern home, 28ins. x 28ins.

It has been recently refurbished and is fine order, but it does have some age related ware to the fine and exotic hard wood veneers (pictured) hardly surprising given its use on a ship for many years, but is otherwise one of the finest pieces of ocean liner furniture, and finest Queen Mary pieces I have ever offered for sale. i only know of four examples to exist, one remains on the ship in Long Beach (pictured within the current hotel/ships starboard gallery by the hotel check in, pictured in December 2023), one within a fine collection in California, one within my own collection, and the current example, here.

This exact table can clearly be seen within the ships beautiful 2nd Class reading & Writing Room in the archival photo of the room, as well as being very clearly shown in photos from the extensive G.T. Rackstraw archive photos that I own, of this exact table being created by the craftsmen of the famous firm, along with the rooms other furnishings and paneling that the company also supplied the new liner.
