The Columbus State Hospital, originally founded in 1838 and rebuilt in 1877 as a Kirkbride building, was once said to be the largest building in the US (and possibly the world). Despite attempts to preserve it, it was demolished between 1991 and 1996. All that remains (I think) are some of the cemeteries.
