VINTAGE COCKTAIL SHAKER "SWEET AD-ALINE" CHROMECENTER-POUR SPOUT WITH BLACK AND RED SILK SCREENED DECORATION

Circa late 1920s to early 1930s.

Probably Hocking Glass Company. Founded in 1905, the HockingGlass Company was one of the two founding companies of the famed glassmanufacturer Anchor Hocking, when it merged with AnchorCap and ClosureCorporations in 1937. As part of that merger, between 1937-1983, Anchor Hockingowned one of the oldest continuously operating glass manufacturing companies inthe United States,which had been established in 1863, in Salem, New Jersey.

This party-sized blown-molded clear glass shaker has two menin tuxedos who appear to be drunk and singing "SWEET AD-ALINE". Thesong's official title, "(You're the Flower of My Heart,) SweetAdeline", is best known as a barbershop quartet standard firstpublished in 1903, taken from an earlier tune written in 1896. Later made evenmore popular when John F. Fitzgerald, JFK's grandfather, gained a reputation asthe only politician who could sing the song sober and get away with it. Thesong was later performed in 1931 by the Marx Brothers in their film MonkeyBusiness and is still sung by pop culture musicians today.

CONDITION:

Excellent overall vintagecondition. No chips or cracks to glass. Decoration is strong and vibrant.Chrome lid is in very good condition. Slight surface scratching and a smallcluster of pitting on a portion of the lower area of the lid. Interiorof lid shows signs of appropriate age and patina, no pitting or rust.
