CLYDE FISCHER Custom Y-O Ranch Texas Hunting Skinning Knife Original Sheath:
$1850.00

This is a high end and very rare and Legendary Clyde Fischer custom, limited edition, YO Ranch Special hunting knife with the original leather sheath. I was told that this is a 70s era knife, but I can\'t be sure.
Engraved on the knife is Mr. Fischer\'s signature symbol, along with YO, for Y O Ranch, and J.O.W., Jr. for the initials of the original owner of this knife. I have been doing research on J.O.W., Jr. to see if I can locate him or a family member, but have been unsuccessful. If you have any information on J.O.W., Jr., I would appreciate you letting me know.
Mr. Fischer was inducted into the ABS Bladesmithing Hall of Fame in 2006. The Clyde Fischer Award is given to a knife whose purpose is the skinning and preparation of a whitetail deer. It has to be of single high carbon steel (no damascus), have no embellishments, such as filework or engraving, and the handle material must be native to the state of Texas.
This exceptional knife has a Mesquite hardwood finger grip handle with nickel silver blade guard, pommel, and medallion, and a very sharp spear point encapsulated full tang L6 special top grade, very tough, high carbon, low alloy steel with a polished finish blade. It appears that this knife has been lightly used with some light scratches and carbon age marks on the blade and some light sheath oxidation that can probably be buffed out if desired.
In my opinion, it would be easy for a jeweler to polish the inscription out and replace it with the engraving of your choice, although it may be more valuable to leave it in its original condition. All I have done to the knife is to apply mink oil to the outside of the sheath. Snap engagement is very good. The excellent condition of this knife is a testament to its quality. The sheath has minor storage wear, overall in excellent condition also.
The knife measures 9\" with a 5\" blade and in the sheath the weight is 12.8 oz.

**L6 tool steels contain 0.70% carbon with a quenched hardness of about 64 HRC. The alloying elements in these tools steels are chromium and molybdenum and 1.50% nickel to increase toughness. These tool steels can maintain hardness above 60 HRC for sections of 75 mm (3 in.) thickness. L6 steel has a long history of being used to make knives and swords. It is particularly prized for its hardness, which allows knives from L6 to hold their edge and wear extremely well. L6 is an oil hardening tool steel that is tough and versatile and is commonly used outside the knife industry for tools, dies, and machine parts. However, in the blade world, L6 is highly sought after, as it makes great knives and swords alike.
