CIVIL WAR US MILITARY TELEGRAPH OPERATOR FORT PULASKI GEORGIA LETTER 1864:

Fort Pulaski was a strategic Georgia post off Cockspur Island, captured by the Union Navy in 1862. An Original Civil War US Military Telegrapher Letter from Frank H Lamb, "Chief Telegraph Operator Dept of the South On Board Steamer Croton off Ft Pluaski, Ga, Dec 13th 63" to Colonel Metcalf Commanding Port Pulaski", seeking 5 days rations for 15 of his men who are out of rations. He also writes that he and Captain McCleninan are trying to hunt curlews although most of their powder has given out, asks permission to purchase some more and issue it to Sergeant Roberts. "If we go upriver as before we will have a (signal) flag with the No. 46 flying from the Storm's flag staff". The letter is signed by Frank Henry Lamb, as Chief Operator Mail Telegraph DS.(Department of the South).
An uncommon Original Civil War Military Telegrapher Letter, written aboard the USS Steamer Croton. Comes w typed transcript. 2pp Frank Henry Lamb, 74th New York was a POW, Battle of Front Royal and became the Chief Military Telegraph Operator for the Dept of the South (Carolinas, Georgia & Florida) and postwar a Superintendent of the Western Union Telegraph. Sgt Milton E Roberts served w the 1st New York Engineers and was at Fort Pulaski 1863-4. Comes w service info and a copy of the image of the USS Croton at Hilton Head, SC during the War. 2pp 8 x 5" ink. Folds age stains, Overall VG. (And maybe the first Curlew Hunting Civil War letter I have had). The National Archives posts an image of the USS Croton at Hilton Head, SC in 1864.
