An original Civil War Army of the Potomac General Order, printed in "Camp Near Berlin, Md", Oct 30, 1862, by Command of Major General McClellan regarding camp inspections, extra duty etc, and on page 2 addressing Signal Corp telegraphers reports that field telegraph lines are being constantly cut by soldiers. The 2pp order details steps to be taken by commanders to prevent this, with a description of the wire for the benefit of the soldiers and warnings of penalties for damage. 2pp. Ink date docketed, "Nov 19"on left front margin (denoting the order was read and recorded by the receiving officer a week or so after McClellan was replaced by General Burnside) .The bottom of page 2 names 2 officers on reverse -Captains Russell & Bangs. 2 punch holes in left margin, edge wear, age stains, Overall VG. The item came from the estate of Henry Sturgis Russell, a friend of George P Captain Bangs, both 2nd Mass Infantry officers at the time. Comes w service info. Russell, a cousin of Robert Gould Shaw ended the War a Brevet Brigadier General for his service.
