Great lot of early military pins and buttons. As found from the estate of a very famous ww2 pilot! Seems to be a mix of a couple German / Prussian pins (iron cross and crowned eagle in the center) and some American civil war / Indian war era pins as well. We are unsure the significance of the “5 4” and the large silver pin that looks to be the letters “TCV” laid over each other. The gentleman that owned this lot was a bomber pilot in ww2 and spent a lot of time in the European theater, so we’re guessing it’s possible the German pins were something he brought home with him after the war. This item is in the exact condition it was in when we found it, mounted to the board just as it sits and we did not want to disturb it.
Another great part about this lot is it came from the estate of a famous ww2 b52 bomber pilot by the name of Colonel Elwyn “Stubbs” Warfle. He is also the author of the book “one lucky bastard” which speaks to his experiences as a pilot in ww2. Colonel Warfle recently passed in 2022 at the age of 98. We have also acquired multiple other items from the beautiful Mount Vernon estate including other military / ww2 related items, books, multiple personal effects, paper goods, etc. happy to send over photos of items to show provenance to prospective buyer for any item related to this estate.
