Brothers George and James Elilott, sons of a Ciolt Armory artificer enlisted for the War in 1861 and saw 3 years of action with the First Connecticut heavies, from the 1862 Richmond campaign & Frederickburg to Petersburg and finally the Assault on Fort Stedman and the Appomattox Campaign.An Original Civil War Letter from George F Elliott at Fort Blenker, Dec 7, 1862 to his Mother and Sister re their financial situation as Edward will not be contributing (Their third Brother Edward deserted the Colt Rifle Regiment and abandoned their widowed mother), begs his mother to avoid heavy work as she is in decline. On page 4 He writes an additionally letter to Sister regrets she has had to leave school to care for Mother, and writes that he has enjoyed some of the "porker" hung in the Family parlor on Thanksgiving Day.Fort Blenker was built at Arlington n 1862 to protect the approaches along Four Mile Run to the City of Arlington, Virginia, along what is now Route 7, near Fort Reynolds Park. The fort was renamed Fort Reynolds in 1863 after General John Reynolds was killed at Gettysburg. Comes w service info for the Elliott Brothers of Manchester, Connecticut. 4pp 8 x 5" ink.
