An old carte de visite by Charles Jacotin, 37 boulevard de Strassbourg, Paris, France, circa 1875.

Portrait of the dwarf Jan Hannema (1839-1878), known as Admiral van Tromp, probably with his manager; also called the Friesland Dwarf or Tom Pouce, he appeared in England in early September of 1848, where he was hailed as a rival to the renowned American General Tom Thumb; he was then said to be ten years old and 2 feet 3 inches, weighing 16 pounds.

He was at the Cosmorama Rooms in London; little news of him again until 1875 when he was at the Opera Theatre in the Crystal Palace, later moving to the Britannia Theatre in Hoxton.
