~This CDV features an early image of Prince Napoleon Jerome, nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte. Note the strong resemblance to his famous uncle! The photograph was taken c. 1850 and showcases Prince Napoleon’s regal appearance. He was born on September 9, 1822 in Trieste, Italy. He died in 1891 in Rome, Italy. He was nicknamed Plon Plon as a child.

The CDV is a must-have for collectors of historical memorabilia and royalty collectibles, particularly those with an interest in French history. It is a rare early image showing the face of the Napoleon Bonaparte relative who most resembled the French Emperor. This was demonstrated by an awestruck crowd who saw Plon Plon when he visited the Emperor’s tomb as a young man. While there are many photos of Plon Plon in his later years, images of him as a younger man are scarce and until the discovery of this image were limited to engravings or drawings. See photos.

The carte is very good condition and measures just shy of 2.5” wide by 4”.

The bottom corners have been clipped to fit in an album and sides slightly trimmed. The carte is a copy from an earlier made photo (daguerreotype) and was produced by W.L. Germon’s of Philadelphia, PA. ~
