Woodward confirms he has received the"dying statements"of Edward van Antwerp and Charles Reade, asking that he retain them"as the man Clarke, charged with the killing, has returned here and is now in confinement...before a Court Martial for 'Manslaughter to the prejudice of good order & Military discipline'...". The stain at the bottom right affects the signature, all else is very good.First Lt. Samuel L. Woodward later became a major serving as the assistant adjutant general of the 10th Cavalry and a brigadier general in the U.S. Army.
